Frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not listed here, please do not hesitate to get in touch via the contact page.
What areas do you cover?
Jennifer will happily travel to wherever she is required in the UK or internationally. Please mention the location as this will affect your quote. Travel rates are usually the ticket costs if travelling by plane or public transport, or 45p per mile by car.
The song that I want isn't on the repertoire list can I request it?
Yes of course you can. Jennifer is happy to sing a variety of different songs from different genres. Jennifer will do her best to make sure that you have the music you want on the day. The more notice you can give, the better; Jennifer may need to have a new arrangement for string quartet written or sourced, and this can take some time and may affect your quote.
Please note that some songs may be unsuitable for Jennifer to sing. How far in advance do I need to book you?
The sooner the better. Bookings work on a first come first served basis and we are currently taking bookings up to one year in advance. Jennifer is in high demand as a performer, so if you have an inquiry about availability, then please contact Jennifer through the contact page. Unfortunately even if availability is given for a certain date, the booking is not confirmed until the deposit has been paid.
I'm hosting a big event - are you happy to sing/play with microphones/can you advise me?
Yes but Jennifer doesn't own any of the equipment required. Jennifer can help to advise you on which sound engineers to hire for your particular needs. She is also happy to use your or the venue's equipment or recommended sound people. Please mention this when booking.
As an opera singer, Jennifer prefers not to use a microphone - she can project her voice well enough without it. Particularly in churches and places with a good acoustic. However if at your event you have a very large audience, excessive background noise or if you are requesting pop/contemporary music then Jennifer will need to decide whether amplification is necessary. Does there need to be a piano available?
It's up to you and depends on what you are after. Jennifer can perform with piano, organ, harp, string quartet or orchestra. If you would like a pianist to accompany her, then she would prefer a real piano provided at the venue, but can arrange for an electric piano in some circumstances. Jennifer has preferred players who she works with regularly, she can either perform with your accompanist or provide her own.
Alternatively, Jennifer can provide her own backing tracks and portable amp should it be more suitable for your event. Do I need to provide anything?Requirements:
Jennifer - A place to change, a parking space when arriving by car, refreshments if required at venue for more than 1.5 hours. String Quartet - A parking space, Armless chairs, good light and refreshments if playing for more than 1.5 hours. Big Events - (See above) Hire of a PA system and sound Engineer(s). Jennifer can advise you on this if you need help Are you happy to perform outside?Yes and no... As a singer I can perform anywhere although extra amplification may be required.
However, when accompanied by string quartet, their instruments are very precious and should not be placed in direct sunlight. They would need a shaded area or small shelter (around 3m x 3m for string quartet). In the event of rain they cannot play outside even if shelter is provided. It may be useful to ask your venue if they have any large umbrellas or a gazebo. Please get in touch if you have a query. How should I pay?
A deposit of 50% is usually required in advance to secure the booking (sometimes more if expensive transport needs to be booked in advance). This is non-refundable. The remaining balance is due shortly prior to the event or on the day. Bank account details will be provided on your Invoice.
Jennifer will accept payment via: Bank transfer Cheque Cash What is your cancellation policy?
If you have to cancel the booking less than 2 months prior to the date of your event you will still be charged half of the agreed fee as we will have had to turn down other bookings. If you have to cancel less thatn 48 hours beforehand, the full amount (minus travel) will be due. Deposits are non-refundable.
Is Jennifer Insured? As a member of The Incorporated Society of Musicians, Jennifer has Public liability insurance.
So should (heaven forbid) an accident occur - Jennifer is covered. What happens if Jennifer is ill on the day/unable to perform? In the rare occasion that Jennifer is unable to perform at a fixed engagement, she will endeavor to find another singer who meets your requirements. Jennifer is in regular contact with lots of highly trained performers and artists.
In the event of severe weather conditions, heavy traffic, or other circumstances outside of Jennifer's control, it may sometimes not be safe or possible to travel. She will always look at every possible option to get to you and will give you as much notice as possible if she is at all concerned. Under these circumstances should she have to cancel the booking you would not have to pay any of the agreed fee. This has never happened before though. >>>>>>BOOK NOW<<<<<<
