Sunday Mass - First Sunday of the Month 2013 - Holy Trinity Armenian Church - Manchester 11am

The Holy Trinity Church in Upper Brook Street, Manchester was the first Armenian Church built and consecrated in Western Europe. It opened its Victorian doors to the Manchester Armenians on Easter Sunday, 1870.
The Armenians are an ancient people whose country included Mount Ararat, the present Republic of Armenia and much of eastern Turkey. It is a mountainous region surrounded by powerful often-warring neighbours. In the year 301 Armenia was the first country to establish Christianity as its state religion and this became a bone of contention with its non-Christian neighbours.

Soprano Soloist 'Pie Jesu'- Bob Chilcott Requiem - Alderley Edge School for girls Easter Service - St Philips & James Church - Tuesday 19th March 2013 7pm

for soprano and tenor solo, SATB chorus, and orchestra or small ensemble
Following the success of Salisbury Vespers, Bob Chilcott further explores the large-scale liturgical genre with his solemn yet uplifting Requiem. Setting words from the Missa pro defunctis and the Book of Common Prayer, the work gives a new slant to established texts: a beautiful setting of 'Thou knowest, Lord' sits alongside the powerful 'Offertorio', driving 'Sanctus', and enchanting 'Pie Jesu'. Deserving of a place among the canon of previous settings, Chilcott's Requiem is an elegy for the modern day.
Accompaniments for orchestra and small ensemble are available on hire, and the piano reduction in the vocal score may be adapted for performance on the organ.
Forces or Category S & T solo, SATB, orchestra/small ensemble
Duration35 minutes
